Patient Story: Atrial Fibrillation May Lead to Stroke
Patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation - arrhythmia / irregular heart rhythm - is at an increased risk for stroke. This was the situation for one of our patients who suffered from a severe wake-up stroke.
During a stroke, without the artery being re-opened, 2 million nerve cells die every minute. The difficulty with wake-up strokes is that there is no way of knowing when the stroke started. Not every hospital is able to treat this type of stroke. Luckily for our patient, she was taken to a comprehensive stroke center which treats wake-up strokes. Our Neuro Interventional Radiologist Dr. Laszlo Miskolczi successfully performed stroke intervention, and she had a remarkable recovery. Watch as our patient sat down with Dr. Miskolczi recently to talk about her experience.
